Macau

UPDATE 30th March
With some great news from the Irish Independent concerning the plans the IGB had in seeking approval to set up an international arm to expand greyhound racing in China - as 'part of an ambitious strategy to generate an alternative stream of income that could support the industry in Ireland' - it is vital to carry on campaigning to close Canidrome greyhound track in Macau and to see a ban of Australian greyhounds exported there.

Many people now will know of greyhounds exported from Australia for racing at Canidrome in  Macau, as reported in a Macau Daily Times article
'Born to race' last year.
Macau is the only part of China where greyhound racing is legal, but with Macau having NO animal protection laws, NO allowances of adoption from the Canidrome track, and  NO chance of re-exporting(due to lengthy and expensive quarantine processes) - the greyhounds face only EUTHANASIA and dire living conditions whilst being used for racing where injuries are common place.

Valuable media coverage has been gained to help strengthen and widen the awareness such as with MDT reports of  GREY2K USA's injury survey, Animals Asia appeals on ABC News, calls for export bans on Radio Australia and coverage of GREY2K USA and Animals Australia campaigns.

Recent news of the 'Call to ban exports of greyhounds to Macau' where Craig Taberner(CEO of Greyhounds Australasia)has spoke of a 'formal review  into its approach to exports' - pressed from calls from Animals Australia.

Continued campaigning is vital.
Please take a moment to join in and share the campaigns here and here.

Please also write a polite email to your Australian Embassy for support in the calls to Australian PM, Julia Gillard and Minister for Agriculture, Joe Ludwig to BAN exports of greyhounds to Macau.

Please remember to sign and share this petition.
